great river arts institute - press releaseGREAT RIVER ARTS INSTITUTE April 27, 2007 GREAT RIVER ARTS ANNOUNCES MAY SCHEDULE OF WORKSHOPS Bellows Falls, Vt. – The Great River Arts Institute announces that the following workshops will be offered in May: Murals: Large Format Printmaking will be offered by master printer Sarah Amos on May 4 - 6. This three-day workshop is designed to introduce participants to an exciting process for creating large mural prints using the French seam adhesion techniques, while deconstructing printmaking traditions. Participants will be encouraged to develop their ideas over a series of plates, which when pieced together, will create a unified large-scale piece. The workshop cost is $500. Kate Carr will be teaching a workshop on Asian Papermaking from May 10 - 13. The four-day workshop will introduce participants to the wonderful world of Asian hand papermaking. Although it is an ancient craft, it is extremely adaptable and can be done without high-tech studio equipment. The workshop cost is $500 and includes all materials. Local artists Julia and Hope Zanes will be teaching a 2-day Gum Printing and Collage workshop on May 12 and 13. They will lead participants in learning this turn-of-the-century photographic process that uses large contact negatives, sum and water to produce prints – a process that was revived by Raushenberg in the 1960s. The workshop cost is $300 and includes materials. Exploring the Dynamics of Color in Garden-Making will be offered by artists and horticulturalists Donald Dreifuss and Susan Howard. This workshop will be an introduction to the relationships between picture and garden making from the visual perspective of color. The three day workshop runs from May 18 – 20 and costs $450.
