Comic Book Storytelling: Intro to Sequential Art – Megan Baehr
August 13-15, 2008 Having a strong story is the first step to making great comics. In this course, students will learn the basic principles of storytelling and how to incorporate these skills into making their own comics. Through studying visual literacy concepts, such as text and image based inferences and sensory images, as well as stylistic choices of line weight, perspective vs. flatness, and level of detail, participants will build on their stories. By covering language skills such as voice of characters, dialogue and reading fluency: recognizing graphic and spatial indicators of inflection, meaning, and character, participants will come away with a complete format for their comic story. faculty
Megan Baehr is a recent graduate of the School of Visual Arts in NYC. She is currently teaching comics and art classes at the Great River Arts Institute in Bellows Falls, VT and at MoCo Arts in Keene, NH. Megan is working on an exciting comic project for an anthology called Trickster. She is also working on her first graphic novel which she hopes to begin pitching to publishers in 2009.
